Since joining Azura in 2016, Dave has played a lead role in driving Azura’s growth from a single asset business into one of Africa’s leading IPPs. Dave has over 19 years of energy and infrastructure experience, with over 14 years focused on Africa. Prior to becoming CEO, Dave was Group Chief Commercial Officer where he was the head of Azura’s business development and commercial teams. Dave brings a wealth of corporate finance, commercial negotiation and business development experience to his role leading Azura.
Prior to joining Azura, Dave worked as a financial advisor at Fieldstone, where he advised on multiple landmark African power transactions. This included the sponsors on the $900m project financing of the 461MW Azura-Edo IPP in Nigeria, Actis on its IPO of Umeme, Uganda’s national electricity distribution company and the 4Power Consortium on the acquisition of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc, as part of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s privatisation programme. He has also advised a number of other IPP developers in Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Prior to joining Fieldstone, Dave spent 5 years working in corporate finance at Lazard & Co., Ltd. He is a CFA Charterholder and received a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey Business School at the University of the Western Ontario, in London, Canada.
